Team Lan Communications Gears Up for 2008 4x4 Charity Challenge
Dublin, Ireland, Tuesday, 30th September 2008: Leading network services company, Lan Communications today announced that it will sponsor a team for the 2008 4x4 Charity Challenge. The challenge, which takes two days to complete entails driving 4x4 vehicles the length and breadth of Ireland both on-and off-road in an effort to raise much-needed funds for Dublin’s Temple Street Children’s Hospital. Two Lan Communications employees, Liam Burke and Declan McCormack will form Team Lan and hope to raise over €2,000 for the charity.
Preparations for the challenge have been underway for months now. Both Liam and Declan have spent a lot of time familiarising themselves with the mechanics of their 3.5 litre petrol V8 Landrover vehicles, both of which are over thirty years old. They’ve had to specially adapt them for the challenge by adding mud terrain tyres, suspension lifts, winches and other upgrades. The treasure hunt style driving and navigational event has offroad sections, around hundreds of kilometres of varied landscape, with hidden clues and set tasks.
“I’m particularly apprehensive about the endurance element of the challenge,” comments Liam. “We’ll be driving for forty-eight hours solid with only minimum sleep breaks. Quite apart from driving, we also have to navigate the routes using Discovery Series Maps which have been kindly donated by Ordnance Survey Ireland. It’s going to be quite a journey.”
The challenge takes place on October 4th and 5th and is the fourth of such events. The previous three successfully raised €72,000 for the hospital. Donations to the 4x4 Charity Challenge can be made through PayPal at Liam and Declan’s donation website on www.teamlancomms.com
